Fear is stupid, so are regrets. Live it up.

I used to valet for a little more than a year. Valeting in a major metropolitan city allows you to park a lot of different makes of cars. With the exception of rare super cars like Bugatti, Koenigsegg or Zonda, I’ve been fortunate to drive them all. Besides being the most fun job I ever had, it was a great way of judging the driving experience on different makes of cars.
Of all the BMWs I’d driven, the 5-series was (still is) my sole favorite. Perfect balance of comfort and performance. I wasn’t a fan of the BMW 3-series…old or new. It had a stiff feel to it every time I pushed the gas or braked. Soon I realized that you don’t fall in love with a BMW at low speeds…you’ve got to take it on the highway. BMWs truly shine at high speeds. The superior compression helps the gas kick in perfectly, the car is perfectly steady and the wheels stick to the road. I loved it.
It’s an absolutely beautiful car to drive and look at. Since it’s lowered, I definitely get a sporty feel to the drive. The M3 exhaust adds a nice purr and the sound of that keyless entry is just wicked cool. Most importantly, the manual transmission seamlessly switches gears while giving you explosive power when you need to feel it. Only the M3 could do any better.
A terrific, independent, long term review of this 1998 BMW 328is is available on Doug’s Domain. This dude is all the way up to 215,000 miles!
